Basic information regarding the Belgian Code

Broader framework

The Belgian supply chain consultation aims to promote good commercial practices in general and, in particular, the code of good commercial practices, while safeguarding contractual freedom. This exists alongside the legal framework that prohibits unfair commercial practices.

The general basis for this is laid down by the law amending the Code of Economic Law with regard to abuses of economic dependence, unlawful clauses, and unfair market practices between undertakings — and, more specifically for the agricultural and food supply chain, by the law transposing Directive (EU) 2019/633 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 April 2019 on unfair trading practices in business-to-business relationships in the agricultural and food supply chain, and amending the Code of Economic Law.
